Volunteer
A Brief Explanation of Volunteer Groups:
- •Audio-Visual Team
The audio-visual team projects the lyrics and controls the sound during the worship services. Volunteers schedule themselves for dates and worship services that work for them. All training is provided. Jon Madson coordinates the A-V team.
- •Childcare Team
Volunteers are scheduled in the nursery once every 6 weeks at one of the worship services. Orientation provided. Debbie Hoff coordinates the nursery volunteers.
- •Communion Team
Volunteers set-up, serve and clean-up when there is communion at a worship service. Volunteers on the 8:45 am teams serve for 2 weeks followed by 4 weeks off. Volunteers for the 5:30 pm and 11:00 am teams serve once a month. All training is provided. Mary Bennett coordinates the communion serving teams.
- •First Responder
First Responders are volunteers who are available in the event of a medical emergency at church. We ask that volunteers have up-to-date CPR and First Aid training. Shepherd of the Valley provides CPR training in the spring and First Aid training in the fall for those who would like to volunteer as a First Responder. After a short orientation, First Responders schedule themselves for dates and worship services that work for them. Jill Wurm coordinates the First Responders.
- •Funeral Team
Volunteers serve as needed when there is a funeral at Shepherd of the Valley. An email is sent out to the members of the group to see who might be able to provide food or serve the meal after the funeral service. Jill Wurm coordinates the funeral team.
- •Greeter Team
Greeters are responsible for greeting people at the doors, making and refilling the coffee and mingling throughout the gathering space greeting guests. Greeters are scheduled for 2 weeks followed by 4 weeks off. Orientation provided. Jill Wurm coordinates the greeter teams.
- •Lawn Care at Church
Volunteers sign up to mow the SOV grounds when it works with their schedule. Rudy Rudolf coordinates this effort.
- •Landscaping at Church
Volunteers are assembled when there is a landscaping project to be done. Dick Herberg coordinates this group.
- •Library Team
Volunteers meet at Shepherd during the week to maintain the church library. Pam Belz coordinates the library team.
- •Snow Removal
Volunteers sign up to remove snow on Sunday mornings that work with their schedule. We have a contractor who comes to plow, but need help removing whatever snow is left (touch up the walkways, emergency exits, spread salt, etc.). Rudy Rudolf coordinates this effort.
- •Scripture Reader
Volunteers read the selected scripture during a worship service. Before the service, readers are invited to research the scripture so that some context and/or introduction can be shared with the congregation. Readers sign up to read for worship services that work with their schedule. Nancy Bode coordinates this group.
- •Usher Team
Ushers are responsible for handing out the worship bulletins, seating congregants for worship, collecting the offering and directing worshippers through communion. Ushers serve for 2 weeks in a row followed by 4 weeks off. Orientation provided. Jill Wurm coordinates the usher teams.
- •Wash Windows at Church
Volunteers meet at Shepherd various times each quarter for a 2-hour shift. Window washers are encouraged to sign up at the Information Kiosk for a date and time that works for them. Kim Ashton coordinates the window washing team.
- •Sunday School Volunteer
Volunteers are needed to fill a variety of roles within the Sunday School Program. See the Children’s Ministry webpage for more information. Click on the Sunday School volunteer form for all of the ways you can help! Christie Cotner coordinates the Sunday School volunteers.
- •Children's Ministry Summer Programming (i.e. VBS, Sports Life Camp, Summer ServeFun)
VBS-Weeklong program in June for children 3 years of age-2nd grade. Sports Life Camp- Happens in August for children kindergarten-6th grade. Week-long, Christ-centered program that includes sports, arts, and tons of fun! Summer ServeFun-3 dates throughout the summer when kids 3rd-6th grade participate in a service project for part of the day, followed by a recreational activity.
- •3rd Base (After School Children's Program)
An afterschool program for children in grades 4-6. Runs October-April from 3:30-5:00 p.m. Volunteers help on a rotating schedule. Christie Cotner coordinates this program.
- •Special Friend for Sunday School
Volunteers are needed to help children with special needs through their Sunday School hour. Volunteers help out every week. Tammie Proue is the Special Needs Ministry Coordinator.
- •Sr. High Small Group Leader
Volunteers are needed to lead bible study small groups for high school students. Much more information can be found out by contacting Maria Paulsen, Sr. High Youth Director.
- •Confirmation Small Group Leader
Volunteers are needed to lead small groups of junior high students through the confirmation program.
- •Adult Leader for Youth Events
Occasionally throughout the year, volunteers are needed to help chaperone during a youth event.
- •Provide Hospitality or Food for Youth Events
Occasionally this type of help is needed for various events and programs.
- •Adult Choir
Anyone interested in joining the choir is invited to come to practice on Wednesdays at 7:00 from mid-September through mid-May. Kris Tjornehoj is the choir director.
